The Monument pays tribute to the 227 Alabama Military Service Members who paid the ultimate sacrifice since September 11, 2001. The monument is located at Trussville’s Veterans Memorial Park - 55 Parkway Drive, Trussville, AL 35173.
Background:
In 2016 Mark Davis (US Navy) and Retired Marine Colonel Lee Busby, founded the Alabama Fallen Warrior Project to build Bronze Busts to honor Alabama Fallen Warriors. In 2018, Mark developed a design for a Monument to honor all 227 Alabama Fallen Warriors and in December 2021, Mayor Buddy Choat and the Trussville City Council unanimously approved to build the Monument at Trussville’s Veterans Memorial Park.
The monument includes 115 Concrete Columns representing those Military Service Members Killed in Action. Each column displays a 3 by 6-inch giant dog tag listing the name, rank, age, and location of death. It also includes 112 (12 by 12 inch) pavers honoring those Military Service Members who died a Non-Hostile Death. The Monument also displays numerous Bronze Busts of Alabama’s Fallen Heroes. It is said, when a military service member is killed
He or She dies two deaths.
One is when they die,
The second is when they are forgotten.
The mission for the Alabama Fallen Warriors Project is to ensure the second death does not happen.
