Blue Star Salute Foundation was founded in 2005 with the mission of honoring our military, our veterans, and our fallen heroes from Alabama. Since our founding, we have primarily focused on the War on Terror Service members, but have had the privilege to honor many World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm veterans. As thousands of organizations across the country have made plans for the 250th birthday celebration of the United States, the Blue Star Semiquincentennial Committee decided to focus on honoring Alabama Heroes from each major conflict in our 250-year history, starting with the American Revolution and ending with the Global War on Terror.
Hundreds of hours of research have identified and documented the service of 10 Alabama Heroes from the eight major wars over our 250 year history. We focused on soldiers, sailors, and airmen who demonstrated great courage in the face of danger and were recipients of the Medal of Honor (32), the Service Crosses (18), or the Silver Star (11). The remainder were selected for their courageous service which was recognized by having cities, counties, US Navy ships, and more named in honor of their service. These are extraordinary stories and are a significant part of Alabama’s History.
The stories of these Alabama Heroes are being told through:
1. An introductory video,
2. A commemorative book titled, “A Salute to Alabama Heroes”,
3. A downloadable listing of these Alabama Heroes, and
4. A picture of the Alabama Heroes Display that we will be taking to veteran events across the state leading up to our 250th birthday.
Please scroll down for more information on each of these initiatives. We hope that you find our work enlightening and share the pride with these and many thousands of Alabama warriors who have fought to gain and protect our freedoms.
This video begins with an image of our Semiquincentennial Logo which features our Founding Secretary and Agent, Glenn Nivens, in his Revolutionary War uniform.
The book is fully illustrated in color and includes a short story on each of the eighty-six honorees, who served from the American Revolution through the Global War on Terror. Not only will you be receiving a very nice Semiquincentennial Commemorative book, but the net proceeds from the sale of the book will go to our General Fund and will be used to carry out our mission of honoring those who serve, have served, and our fallen heroes. The book is available for sale at the Goat Hill Museum Store at the Alabama State Capitol and online at the Lulu Bookstore. Click on the button below to be redirected to the Lulu Bookstore page where you can order your personal copy of the book. Also, please come back after you have had a chance to read the book and give your review. We thank you in advance for your support.
